About the art of Jurate Harrison. Although there have been many influences in my life from teaching in Alaska to farming in Lithuania, I have always returned to art. It is as if my life experience gets ground up into a fine powder - add pigment and texture, and the canvas takes on a life of its own.
To give a little background on myself. After completing a degree at the Otis Parsons School of Design, I married and moved to Unalaska, Alaska where we lived for 12 years. I had exhibited and sold my work in California before moving to Alaska, but after the move there were few opportunities to display my work so I continued creating and teaching art. I have returned to creating art for exhibiting again in the past five years. I have shown my work in variuos galleries since then including the Edmonds Gallery, Semantics Gallery, the Edmonds Studio Tour and the Ward Johnson Gallery. I have also show my work several times in the Edmonds Juried Arts Festival. My work tends to be primarily of a mystical and dreamy place which takes its roots from ancient legends, myths and ancestral memories.
