About the art of Jurate Harrison.  Although there have been many influences in my life from  teaching in Alaska to farming in Eastern Europe, I have always returned to art.  It is as if my life experience gets ground up into a fine powder - add pigment and texture, and the canvas takes on a life of its own.

To give a little background on myself.  After completing a degree at the Otis Parsons School of Design, I married and moved to Ducth Harbor, Alaska where we lived for 15  years.  I had exhibited and sold my work in California before moving to Alaska, but after the move there were few opportunities to display my work. While I continued creating and teaching art, I did not produce larger pieces for exhibiting until we moved to Edmonds, Washington. I have returned to creating art for exhibiting and sale again in the past few years.  I feel that I am re entering a world which reaffirms everyhting I believe to be true about the place we live in.
